SPECIFICATIONS:
Sweetfilter IV Manhole Insert
1.0 Scope
1.1 Under this item, the contractor shall supply to manufacturer's recommendations an insert as shown .
2.0 MATERIALS AND DESIGN
2.1 General
The insert and components shall be manufactured from corrosion-proof material suitable for atmospheres containing H2S and dilute H2SO2 gases associated with wastewater collection systems.
2.2 The Body
The insert body shall be made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene plastic that meets Federal Standards of LP 1183 and can pass ASTM test requirements: D 256, D 638, D 790, D 792, D 785, D 648.
The thickness shall not be less than 3/32". The insert body shall be manufactured to the dimensions as shown on the contract drawings to allow easy installation in the manhole frame. The insert body shall not have an overall depth exceeding 26 1/2".
2.3 Gasket
Gasket shall be made of closed cell neoprene and have a pressure sensitive adhesive on one side
2.4 Inflatable seal tube and air valve The inflatable seal tube shall be designed to operate at a pressure of 20 p.s.i. or less. Air fill valve shall be positioned to allow the shallowest practicable insert design.
Valve shall be easily acessed for deflation for insert removal or to allow water drainage should inspection be required immediately after or during rain storm.
2.5Lift Strap
Insert shall have a lift strap attached to the body. Straps shall be made of 1 inch width nylon . Lift strap shall be attached to insert body by means of a sealed aluminum rivet.
2.6 Sizing
Insert shall be manufactured to fit the manhole frame rim from which it hangs. Specific field measurements are required .
3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1 Manhole frame rim shall be cleaned of all dirt or debris before placing the insert.
3.2 Manhole upper section is fitted with two equidistant 5"x3.5" windows for locking mechanisms penetration. Insure manhole cover locks are aligned to window areas before seating insert. 3.3
Insert shall be fully seated around the manhole frame between the insert and the manhole frame rim.
3.4. Remove inflation valve cap and insert tube through tube hole in upper ring.
3.5. Remove inflation valve strap from pressurized can and secure to inflation tube.
3.6.Place seal tube around periphery of ring, loosely secure with velcro straps to allow for tube expansion and use pressurized can to partially inflate seal.
3.7 Place insert in manhole and inflate seal tube completely with pressurized can provided. Use paperclip to clear plugging from inflation tube seal valve as needed.
3.8 Fill odor control insert with 10-20 lbs. odor control media and secure manhole cover.
4.0 FIELD TESTING AND TRAINING
4.1 No training is required. |
